After our maiden outing two weeks ago (for blog purposes), we had an Uber Eats last week. Mango Daddy had had a boozy pub lunch with the lawn bowls crew from Somerton and was unable to drive. The Uber Eats turned out to be a complete disaster. Half the order was missing (realised moments after the driver had left), and the food was cold on arrival. We will do the restaurant the decency of a later review as it really wasn't their fault.
Keen to get the ball rolling again we lifted the bar with tonight's venue; British India on Anzac Highway. I drive past it most times I go into town or back but had only had one dinner there before. It's a class act, no denying it. Beautiful ambience, cocktail list and small but classy menu. But what did the BCK think about it?
She (the BCK) says: "It was a very yummy dinner, but the butter chicken could be creamier. But it was very good and I did enjoy it. The Mango Lassi was nice, creamy and very mangoey."
To be fair they have both a British Butter Chicken and an Indian Butter Chicken, and we ordered the latter at the BCK's request. That might have been a bit creamier.
He (the Mango Daddy) says: "Packed for a Tuesday night, and we got there at 6.15. Bookings necessary.. The Mango Lassi was basically a 10, but we can't peak too early and be giving out 10s so I went with 9.5. The price came close to Bombay Vintage, which was a surprise as it's a different level ambience and service wise. If there was one criticism from me, it was that the naan's were a bit buttery. A plain naan for me should be just that. The wait was a little long for the BCK who was close to starving before the food arrived, and then immediately full on mango lassi when the food did arrive. A great venue, absolutely top notch. One half serve of butter chicken and naan left over for lunch tomorrow. Will be back!!!"
